Taking a Stand – A Historian’s Journey of Gallipoli

Three large textbooks shifted across the table as our speaker Richard Stowers collected together his notes.

Richard began to share his journey, as an independent historian living in Hamilton digging into the records of the New Zealand Soldiers in Gallipoli. As a result of this research he wrote and published several books documenting the details, and found a significant inaccuracy in the official number of New Zealand casualties.

As Richard successfully challenged the official version of the casualties, he explained to the Hamilton Central Rotary members the process and frustration of gaining validation.

We are so grateful to Richard for sharing his experience.
